PS4 Sega Genesis Classics Review, a bigger waste of money there never was

Landstalker, Shining Force II, Golden Axe III, Street of Rage 2, these are only some of the games that came out on PS4 Sega Genesis Classics and while most of these games were among the most sought after of their generation, it is worth noting that gamers will no longer have to settle for playing them on their consoles of the past for which the games were made. Incidentally, the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics has a total of 50 games which many gamers are familiar with.

However, the issue is justifying any reason to buy the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics for the PS4 when a similar game came out on the PS3 centuries before – pardon the expression. Bringing everything from the past to current-gen consoles is not necessary especially when it comes to this game because it becomes evident that not every gamer will see the point in spending extra money; I sure don’t.

The only real difference between the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics and the PS3 Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection is the games on both which are ideally similar, but there are some omissions. In this review I’ll be discussing the game as a whole, why its a waste of money, and why it might not pointless to buy and why you should not bother at all. Having said that, here’s my PS4 Sega Genesis Classics Review.

PS4 Sega Genesis Classics is a waste of money

Alright out the starting gate, the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics is a waste of money and it’s pretty obvious as to why because, and I’ve mentioned this, the PS3 already did this. There’re more games on it than the PS3 version – Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection – but there’s really no point in getting the same game again that is unless you want to spend the extra money playing games in 4K which you can get the same or more of the same from playing the game on a flat screen that’s not 4K.

Not worth the buy

Also, I want to go on record as saying that 4K is pointless. Overall, the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics barely serves a purpose let alone one that involves gaming. Whenever I consider buying a PS3 remake that comes out on the PS4, I always ask myself “do I really want this?”, if I can’t come up with an answer within 10 seconds or even after conducting 2 days of research on the game, I’m not buying it. Unmoot point: SAVE YOUR MONEY!

A lot there, a few missing

There are a lot of games on the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics as many gamers will notice, but there are a lot of games there and a few missing like Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles which was at the height of its gaming influence of its generation; everyone wanted a piece of that game including yours truly, it was just a stroke of luck that my brother got it for Christmas the year it came out.

This would’ve at least made the game a potential buy

Outside of the few games that’s missing, it cannot be argued that the game would be worth the buy if many gamers still have their past gen consoles and playing those same games on it or on an emulator. In my opinion, the missing games hardly constitute spending $30.00+ dollars on a whole brand new game.

All I’m going to say on this is that many of the same games that the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics can be found on the Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection making it a better buy over the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics. Don’t be fooled, if you think you’re getting a bargain buying the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics; you’re not.

Retro Gaming Consoles have said games i.e. Sega Genesis Classic Console

Now, if you are really feeling and have come down with the retro game fever then buying the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics is not the way to go about it; there are retro gaming consoles such as Sega Genesis Classic Console that came out a long time ago. Granted, the system is nothing new, but you get way more games on it than the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics; you get 80 games on the console and all built in which is a way better deal.

Also, there are many RetroPie gaming consoles being created and can be created by the people that buy them in which they can put their own games on it including every single one that’s on the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics. Alternatively, if gamers didn’t want to go that direction then they could still buy the games individually which is obviously ill-advised considering that they’re expensive.

But, if you have to have all the retro games you want including the ones on the PS4 Sega Genesis Collection then I suggest you get a RetroPie gaming console or the Sega Genesis Classic Console. See, there’s one more reason why you don’t need to buy the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics

An option if you don’t own a PS3 or had trouble with it

I can say that if you wanted to buy the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics because you were having trouble with the PS3 version or your PS3 was not the best at that particular time then by all means do because there you would have motive, rhyme and reason to buy the game especially since the bugs in the PS3 were still getting ironed out especially on the slim. The PS4 Sega Genesis Classics would make a great addition to your gaming collection.

Another good buy

To me, this is the only reason why I would even consider buying the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics but even then I’d still go back to the RetroPie being a better option and/or creating my own if I wanted to get all the games I wanted especially the ones not on the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics.

Don’t bother

My verdict on this game or buying this game is – – – don’t bother because you’re not missing out not buying this game and there are better games coming out that you’ll get more out of than this, the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics; unless you feel you really have to have this game for whatever reason then I would just leave let enough alone. I’m giving this game a 2/10, yes the game did come to current-gen consoles but at the cost of originality to which there was none.

Save your money for this, def worth it!

And if we’re being honest here, I can’t see many gamers playing the games on the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics as opposed to playing the new God of War on NG+, the new Dragon Quest XI and the new Spiderman that’s coming out tomorrow. The game on the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics are a lot like a blue toilet disk; good for their time, but now barely worth flushing or when it comes to this game, playing.

Conclusion

The PS4 Sega Genesis Classics was a game that brought a lot of old, great games back from the dead, but the fact remains that it is a waste of money simply because there are other better alternatives to buying the game. The PS4 Sega Genesis Classics has a lot of games but with a few missing which is technically no hardship simply because the games are not popular or trending, but would be openly available to play if gamers wanted to download them to a RetroPie console that they created of their own design.

The Sega Genesis Classics Console is another such option that gamers could go with if they wanted to have all the retro games for one console; Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection is another option if gamers wanted to go that route which would be as good or the equivalent of saving money on games. The PS4 Sega Genesis Classics is a good buy only if gamers had trouble with their PS3 back when they were popular.

Overall, I wouldn’t bother with buying the game because it just doesn’t scream “good buy” or a money smart buy even if you’re a fan of the games on it. So, what do you think of the post, do you think I’m right or wrong; do you think the PS4 Sega Genesis Classics is worth the buy after all? I’d love to hear what you think; leave me a message and I’ll get back to you immediately. Thank you and Happy gaming.
