Many of the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Islands is home to many things such as monsters, legendary weapons and armor as well as accessories. Throughout your adventuring, you’re going to find yourself visiting just about every place in the game. However, what if there were more than a few islands that you didn’t have to visit at all?
If you’re just starting the game, you may not know which islands you have to go to and which ones that you can optionally avoid. Like for me, I’ve been all over the globe so to speak, but I found that not all islands are worth visiting but is it to your benefit to do so if you thought something of value was there; a question I’ve often asked myself.
There are islands that you’ll have to go to and strictly adhere to so as to keep up with the game so you don’t get lost, but just remember that it is easy to get ahead of yourself if you have access to the open world and it is even easier to let that happen in this game.
As you’ll find out in this post, there are ideal times to visit these islands and places and why rushing to them could lead to your imminent doom.
Now, as you’re going from place to place in the storyline, it is important that you strictly adhere to the destinations no matter how early or late in the game that you visit them. However, you’ll strictly adhere to the quest storyline for the good of the game and getting it cleared. Make no mistake, the quest storyline WILL NOT take you to every locale on the map which means that sometimes you may be left wondering what places have significance despite it being optional and which ones that are optional are not important at all.
My advice, keep playing the game and whatever you do, don’t take the world into your own hands. What I mean by that is, don’t think that a locale isn’t important just because its sitting on its lonesome because 10x out of 10, you’ll find out differently. I thought that Chios wasn’t going to be important so I went on and did it only to find out later that it was important and that I should’ve waited.
Again, don’t get ahead of yourself, take the game with a grain of salt and the same goes for the islands you visit. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Islands and Places that are not important to the main story
As I previously mentioned, you’ll be sent to the various Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Islands as you’re going from place to place. However, there are islands that do not have any type of relevance to the quest storyline but places that you should definitely go to on account of their significant secrets, for lack of better phrasing, the things you’ll discover on these “forgotten” islands makes exploring them a must.
The first place is Lokris, I remember the first time I went here, I was trying to get everything filled in; I was around Lv. 30 and I was just dominating. Lokris is optional and a place you do not have to explore, there’s no significance in exploring Lokris but you should anyway because there are exploration points on the map that are worth the investigation. Achaia is another place that’s optional, but you’ll want to go here because there’s a cultist hiding here; the same goes for Euboea.
Makedonia is a place, I’ve found, has no significance whatsoever and I mean that from the perspective that there’s nothing going on at all on Makedonia; you can avoid it with no consequence but still visit and fill the map out by going to the ? exploration points, it’ll be a good place to pump some iron i.e. level up, but don’t grind.
Ideal time to visit these places
You would think that there was an ideal time to go to these Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Islands and you can usually find that out with the little numbers that are on the island, but for the optional islands i.e. Achaia, Lokris, Euboea and Makedonia, I would wait until about maybe level 50+ before you go. The reasoning is that you’ll be better prepared for the challenges in the quest storyline. It goes without saying that the optional islands/places can be visited anytime whether you sail to them or you explore them later in the game.
For me, I was at least Lv. 60 before I went to a lot of the optional places I mentioned because enemies where infinitely easier to deal with outside of the mercenaries that kept hunting me but even they were no challenge at all. I did get the feeling that I could visit these places early on in the game but I felt like I would’ve been no match for anything on any of the islands.
You can even, if you wanted to explore this option, wait until close to the endgame like Chapter 8 then explore the aforementioned optional places. That way, you won’t feel like you have anything to lose exploring these islands.
What you should not do
One thing you should never do, despite that its quite possible to do and get out alive, you don’t want to visit the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Islands too early because you could be setting yourself up for failure and by that I mean that you could die a million times because you’re too underleveled. I’ve never had this problem but I’ve seen how strong enemies are on many of the optional places/island. Achaia is one such island that will address this concern especially if the cultist on it is at a higher level than you are which, good chance, they will be.
It is important to keep following the story questline of the game because you’ll grow as a character and master many skills which is something you’ll need to do before you get anywhere on these islands. It is quite possible to go through the optional islands with minimal hardship but I don’t recommend it unless you’ve mastered Hero Strike, Fire Mastery, Rush Assassination and Arrow Mastery. Having these skills will give you a fighting chance while you’re exploring the optional islands but that’s even if you decide to do so.
Above all, pace yourself and don’t get overwhelmed. You’ll visit every locale in the game except for the ones I mentioned. Remember that.
The Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Islands in the game are home to many an item and enemy as well as monsters, but strict adherence of the story questline will ensure you stay with the story while also remembering Lokris, Achaia, Euboea and Makedonia are the only optional islands in the game, you’ll be guided to everywhere else. As long as you remember to not go to any of these islands too early in the game then you’ll be fine but going in the late game is more beneficial.
You’ll need to grow as a character in order to be ready for any of the optional islands so just remember that little tidbit. So what do you think of my post, good, bad, or just plain wrong? Leave me a message and I’ll get back to you immediately. Thank you and Happy gaming.
