You might visit the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Blacksmith at different points in the game or you might do it often to buy weapons (which you shouldn’t) see why here. The blacksmith in the game serves another purpose, it is where you can dismantle and buy some materials that is needed for your arrows. Enemies and mercenaries are getting tougher to deal with, and your weapons might not be getting the job done but more importantly, your arrows will need to be at the height of their damaging power in order to be effective.
Olive Wood in the open wilds!
Olive Wood is THE key ingredient in crafting arrows especially the explosive ones which you will need and find yourself using all too often, explosive arrows have the damage output to get the job done so you need that firepower. Furthermore, keeping a good amount of Olive Wood can be a big problem especially since you’re abusing your arrows on mercenaries that seemingly only take lethal damage from explosive and death arrows.
However, there’s a strategy I’ve developed that will not only help you keep Olive Wood on your person but always have it when you need it but more on that in a little while. The blacksmith in the game is vital to getting stronger which I’ll discuss in this post.
Olive Wood and keeping a good chunk of it
Keeping a lot of Olive Wood on your person is very hard because you’re constantly finding yourself using and going through the arrows in your collection trying to take down certain enemies whether they are guards of opposing forces like Spartans or Athenians or even mercenaries. That’s why the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Blacksmith is important because you can buy Olive Wood from them so you can keep a good collection of Olive Wood in your possession.
I mean let’s face it, you’re going to face some powerful enemies which are usually the mercenaries who are coming after you. You’re going to need to deal as much damage in the shortest time possible to those mercenaries and the Olive Wood, from which your arrows along with other materials are born, is the key to making this a reality and keeping you alive. Your 4 go to arrows will be Poison, Fire, Death and Explosive.
Another way of getting your hands on Olive Wood is by sailing the seas from place to place and obtaining the salvage that’s left over from ships you or other opposing forces have destroyed but either way, the salvage always consist of Olive Wood but hanging around on the open seas looking for Olive Wood is ill-advised.
Now, you look at the blacksmith and you go to him when your Olive Wood and other arrow ingredients are low or completely tapped. The Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Blacksmith has more and now I’ll reveal the secret to keeping Olive Wood and other materials on you. When you’re playing through the game, go to the blacksmith in each town and province, buy up their Olive Wood and keep doing this each time you run out. And make sure you’re abusing the fast travel option when trying to get to a nearby blacksmith.
The trick here is to have access to almost every blacksmith or enough of them where you can go to a blacksmith or a few of them and bleed them dry of their Olive Wood or their Soft Leather that way you don’t have to make as many frequent trips back to the blacksmith before they’ve had a chance to restock the materials.
Incidentally, this is something you’re going to need to do on a somewhat consistent basis because if you’re out there taking on 3 or more mercenaries at a time, you’re going to burn through your arrows quickly. This method, this way, you’ll have a back-up strategy for preventing that.
A Couple of Tips of Conservation
Personally, it’s a good thing that the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Blacksmith has materials that make it easy for you to continue using your arrows but here are some tips for conservation so you’re not going through your arrows as quickly or having to refill your supply ingredients as quickly. One, if you’re using a specific arrow, use that arrow only.
For example, if you’re using explosive arrows then use the explosive arrows until they’re gone. Sadly, you’re going to find yourself going through your explosive arrows anyway because most mercenaries late game take significant damage from explosive arrows including the death arrows.
Second, try not to get into the habit of fully using your arrows to start and finish a battle because you’re going to be in really bad shape when you need them, it may not seem wise to engage a mercenary or an enemy up close and personal, but as long as you parry and dodge you won’t go through your arrow as much.
Third, use your Rush Assassination ability to stealth kill enemies, I know this is a little off the beaten path so to speak but going to the blacksmith and getting refills on your ingredients cost, a lot. So conservation is key.
Anytime you’re at blacksmith, always, always dismantle any old equipment you have particularly bows because they have Olive Wood that you need to keep your arrow supply at full. Sometimes it easy to get into the habit of roaming all over forest areas trying to gather up Olive Wood to sustain the arrow supply but that’s why the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Blacksmith exists so you don’t have to go through all of that. The main goal is to play and enjoy the game and I can think of no better way of doing just that than by leaving your arrow supply ingredients, for lack of better phrasing, refills in the hands of the blacksmith.
Ultimately, dismantling every weapon and armor piece you have is the key to keeping a good supply of arrows. But you can also sell your equipment as well, naturally you’re not going to sell or dismantle the legendary equipment because its legendary and most legendary are the most powerful pieces of equipment you’ll ever hold.
But the be all end all is to dismantle all of the bows that you get and/or find except for the legendary bows you find or are given, you’ll be able to keep a good supply of Olive Wood which you’ll need to.
When you visit an Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Blacksmith your goal is to buy out all of the Olive Wood in the possession of the blacksmith and remember to conserve your arrows by using other techniques on your enemies, its never a good thing to become too reliant on your arrows. Dismantling the bows you find will keep you neck deep in Olive Wood.
