Assassin’s Creed games have been around for a very long time, they made their first appearance on PS3 starting with the first Assassin’s Creed. At first glance, the Assassin’s Creed games might come off as historical nonsense or a recreation of; Assassin Creed Odyssey Playstation 4 is a game that mirrors its predecessors. Ultimately, it has come to be known as one of the greatest Assassin’s Creed games of its kind. I didn’t think much of the game when it first came out because I thought it was historically inaccurate.

However, I took a shot at the game and I have to say that I like, hell, I love it. This game is a must have for any PS4 gamer because if I’m being completely honest here, it’s not going to get better than this. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a game that combines the love of Greek Mythology with the brutal nature of God of War; the game has so many awesome features such as being able to guide you from place to place.

A unique gaming experience that you can only have when you play Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, it’s not your traditional Assassin’s Creed game which I’ll discuss in this post.

First Impressions

My first impressions of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was that it started off on a very uneven and unhistorical kilter – for lack of a better term, I had no idea that there were so many things in the game that made it awesome. I’ve been playing the game recently and there’s so much to love about it.

The sidequests are pretty great and challenging but know this, they are very rewarding. You’ll get some that’ll put you out on the open sea, you’ll want to do these because more times than not, you’ll reap handsome rewards for sinking ships especially Athenian or Spartan ships not to mention pirate ships.

Another thing that was very eye-opening to me was how the game just seemed to guide you in the ‘right’ directions but I also found that if you look on the map screen and Zoom out, you’ll be able to see the various lands that you cannot go to or approach because of your level. The mercenaries that come after you are a joke in their own right again, this is my first impression of the game but playing the game over the time I have really opened my eyes to the great game that it is. Trust me, it’s worth a playthrough.

A non-traditional Assassin’s Creed game

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a non-traditional Asssassin’s Creed game on account of several factors; the historical aspect, the killing, the places you visit and the overall camaraderie you develop in the game with the characters you help and the rapport you build. In past Assassin’s Creed games, you were always ‘suspended’ to the shadows only. But, in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, you can get access to the shadows and you can even disappear from sight.

The ability tree is another aspect that makes the game nontraditional which is good because you have several tools at your disposal to destroy your enemies like take the Hero Strike, a combo move that knocks your opponent off balance and deals them moderate damage sometimes it’s an instant kill if your enemies are under-leveled and you’re over.

The weapons and armor make the game really pop because you live like a Greek hero from that time period, its great in that you can also get armor that your enemies drop as well. There’s never a place you can’t go or a person you can’t help, you get to make choices that impact your relationship with the person you’re talking to or helping.

Overall, the game should not be underestimated in the way of providing awesome gameplay and entertainment, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Broken Spear of Leonidas

When I first laid eyes on the Broken Spear of Leonidas, the first thing I said was “what a piece of shit” and sought to set it aside but do not underestimate that spear, it is the most powerful thing you’ll ever hold. Many of your assassin moves revolve around the spear which is great for taking out enemies at a distance or up close. Let it not be said that it will not be useful to you because it totally will be. Invest in the moves revolving the spear because later on, its power grows which is something I discovered recently.

The spear will have a bit of a ‘magical’ sparkle coming off of it, if you know what that means or what it is then feel free to correct me but I feel like every time I see that on the spear, its doing more damage to your enemies or it could be surrounding a lot of other things. But, keep your eyes on the spear the more you move through the story because you’re bound to see changes in it that you didn’t before.

Ultimately, the Broken Spear of Leonidas is a great secondary weapon because you’re always going to be using it and its critical to creatively finishing off your enemies.

DLC – Downloadable Content

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has a few DLC – downloadable content that you can buy so as to add some depth to the game. There’s the first dlc called the first blade, the second is The Fate of Atlantis. I have the Fate of Atlantis dlc because I’m obsessed with Greek Mythology and I like the fact that I can travel to Atlantis by completing a part of the story so definitely excited for that. Now, not all of the dlc is worth it; in fact, if you buy any of the dlc, you should buy the Fate of Atlantis; at least that’s my recommendation because you won’t get that much from the other dlc.

The great thing about the Fate of Atlantis dlc is that you’ll be take/treated to 3 different areas or planes of existence if you will. I won’t tell you what they are but when you think about God of War III, you’ll be able to figure out which places they are. But, I can tell you that Atlantis is not the only place you’ll end up going. You’ll be meeting with Cerberus and you’ll see what Greek heaven consist of, but that’s all I can tell you, hehe.

Conclusion

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a non-traditional game that deals in historical and in some cases, non-historical ‘accuracies’ – for lack of a better term. However, you’ll be able to use superior moves from 3 different skill trees to destroy your enemies. Mercenaries will be sent after you to make your life difficult, but they can be beat. Ultimately, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey really bring Greek Mythology alive because the powerful Broken Spear of Leonidas really give killing your enemies flare.

So what do you think of my impression of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, what are your thoughts and what do you think of the game if you have it? Leave me a message and I’ll get back to you. Thank you and Happy gaming.

You can look forward to that beauty when you get to the Fate of Atlantis

Great impression of the game. I remember when the very first one came out over 10 years ago. That’s the only one I’ve actually played, but from what I remember it wasn’t too bad. After reading this, I might get the game for a gift seeing that Xmas isn’t too far now lol.

I would, Nate. Personally, I still kick myself to this day when I play it because I tell myself all the time; “this game should’ve been my birthday present last year”. Definitely get the game, I swear by it because its that good.

Although I am not a gamer myself, I am familiar with games like this one. In spite of my “greenhorn” status, I found your analysis to be clear and entertaining. If you can get that kind of response from someone who is not acquainted with the Assassin’s Creed world, you have done a great job, indeed. Thanks for an enjoyable synopsis.

No problem Jack, but you should play the game because it is a lot of fun. Well, just this one and possibly Assassin’s Creed Origins, but they’re the only ones.
